2,000 racers participate in Stevens Point Bock Run

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - The cold Saturday did not scare off runners in the Stevens Point Bock Run. Two thousand of them endured this weather for a good cause.

Streets surrounding the Stevens Point Brewery were taken over by the annual 5-mile race.

There were so many runners it took at least one minute to get all of them across the starting line.

The Bock Run has come a long way in 12 years when attendance at the first one was a little over 300 people.

Organizers say all 2,000 spots were filled a mere three hours after registration opened.

All entry fees go toward grants for running organizations in the community.

As the first road race of the season, organizers say the event is also a huge social gathering.

"This is truly the first road running race of the year and a lot of people are looking forward to seeing their friends that they haven't seen all winter," said Scott Gralla, the Bock Run president.

Not everybody was there to run. Some people showed up just to spectate and enjoy a couple beers.

Organizers say the biggest challenge this year was dealing with Mother Nature.
