Student artists get real gallery experience

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - The top student artists in Stevens Point displayed their work Sunday at the Riverfront Arts Center.

Nearly 100 pieces from students grades 7 through 12 went up in the gallery. The art included paintings, sculptures and ceramics.

Organizers say the experience of having art shown in a gallery setting is priceless for a young artist.

"Kids are a little shy at first but I think generally they're pretty proud. You see a lot of cameras flashing and stuff like that," said Nancy Thorson, the director of the Arts Center.

The Emerging Artist series has been showcasing young talent since 2000. The gallery will stay up until March 26.
