STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - The 39-year-old man Stevens Point Police say poured gasoline in his apartment and then intentionally set it on fire and left is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Roy Strait has been booked in the Portage County Jail. A bond hearing was scheduled Wednesday.

Strait's attorney did not want to comment.

Police say the fire happened at 1900 Monroe Street just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Two people were evacuated from separate apartments, according to police. Officers say they were told four people lived in four separate apartments within the building.

Authorities say Strait approached officers to turn himself in on the 200 block of Division street just before 3 a.m.

They say the investigation is ongoing and that no one was hurt in the fire.

Fire officials say the building was destroyed.

The American Red Cross is assisting one of the residents.
