Wausau looking for help with stray cats

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The City of Wausau is looking for someone to help deal with stray cats.

Back in May, the Marathon County Board decided to stop paying to shelter stray cats. The city does not have a contract with any shelters to deal with those cats. Wausau is now taking bids from groups wanting that job. Wausau Police told Newsline 9 Tuesday how stray and feral cats will be handled, once a group is found.

"Feral cats, which are wild animals, would be immediately euthanized," said Lt. Matt Barnes of the Wausau Police Department. "But cats whose owner is unidentifiable that have been domesticated, there's a minimum of seven days and it'll be entirely up to the shelter where the cat is, and how it's dealt with."

Deadlines for groups to turn in proposals is Friday.
