Wausau School District committee approves music plan
WAUSAU (WAOW) -- A Wausau School District committee has agreed on some guidelines for song choices at school concerts.
This issue exploded last year when the district proposed limiting the number of religious songs, sparking public outcry.
Now a special committee has agreed on a plan to use in the future to select songs. It focuses on helping music teachers select a variety of songs that will educate students while not touting one specific religion.
“They studied the different policies that were available statewide and we looked to those and we then pulled it together to form a policy for the district, and also with recommendations on how to implement the policy,” said Nell Anderson, director of elementary education.
The full school board will vote on the plan next Monday.
