Next phase of highway project set to begin

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The next phase of a multi-million dollar highway project will begin soon.

An informational meeting took place Tuesday at Northcentral Technical College.

The project involves renovating Highway K underneath Highway 51 in Wausau. Transportation leaders say they will also replace the pavement on Highway 51.

WisDOT officials say the primary detour will be County Highway U and Overlook Drive. Some ramps will be closed in the process and two roundabouts will be added.

"So where Highway 51 exit ramp going to and from County Highway K will have roundabouts at them," said Project Manager, Dan Erva.

"It's going to be a rough summer but I think in the end it'll be good," said Wausau resident, Gene Schulz.

DOT officials say this phase of the project is expected to begin later this month.
