Co-Athletes of the Week, Katelyn Ramthun and Katelynn Schilling

SCHOFIELD (WAOW) - Katelynn Schilling and Katelyn Ramthun are leading the Central Wisconsin Storm to the WIAA State Tournament for a seventh straight season. The two freshmen have combined for 55 points on the season, and the reason why is simple: chemistry.

We're really good friends,” Ramthun said. “So we always know where each other are going to be. We don't really talk that much on the ice but we just know where each other are going to be, so we can just anticipate.”

Schilling and Ramthun say that they have had much success playing together for the past six years, but their head coach Jana Wimmer said their roles on the varsity team this season are unexpected.

These freshmen and underclassmen really kind of got thrown to the wolves right away,” Wimmer said. “And it was sink or swim... and they swam. They did an awesome job and they stepped into roles that a lot of people didn't think they would have.”

This weekend, however, the freshmen will have to deal with the pressure of a state tournament setting for the first time. It's a challenge they think they are ready for.

I'm exited and nervous,” Schilling said. “It's our first time there, so I have some mixed emotions.”

I'm really nervous one moment and then really excited,” Ramthun echoed. “We'll see how it is when I get down there.”

With three years remaining in their high school careers, the two have a vision of making a habit out of state tournament appearances.

I just always see us, growing up as hockey players together, and us having the same success together,” Ramthun said.

The Central Wisconsin Storm play the Bay Area Ice Bears in the state semifinal game at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
