WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) -
It's billed as a spotlight on the arts or a taste of Mardi Gras with a central Wisconsin twist.
"I like to think of it as a four day party," says Cathy Meils, organizer of Arti Gras.
"ARTi Gras" has kicked off in Wisconsin Rapids.
"Everyone is really excited. We're starting off with a mask making class and everyone is just in that mode of the celebration and certainly the arts are a reason to celebrate," says Sylvia Becker, Executive Director at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center.
The festival also features fashion shows, masquerades and films. Comedians from central Wisconsin will also perform.
In addition to shining a spotlight on local artists, organizers say the money raised will go to the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center and the Community Theater in Wisconsin Rapids.
"It's something new, it's something fresh. It's something we haven't had before," says Meils.
Organizers hope this event will bring more attention to all things art.
