National Unplug Day

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Friday is National Unplug Day. Experts say many family homes have at least one computer and smartphone, showing that many rely on technology more than ever.

The average adult will spend more than five hours a day on an electronic device.

That's why a national non profit group came up with "Unplug Day."

The day encourages people to turn off their electronics, such as cell phones and laptops.

We checked in with people in Wausau. Not many people seemed to be participating, but they say they think the day is a good idea.

"I don't think it would be too hard," said Michael Hegewald of Wausau. "But, I don't know it's just so much part of your daily life it's what you do everyday."

Alexa Denk of Wausau agrees.

"I read a lot so I have other things to entertain me," said Denk. "I don't know, I could probably do it for a day, probably not more than a day."

For those participating, people are encouraged to sign a pledge on the event's website and post a photo of themselves saying why they unplug.
