Popular Marshfield grocery store owner dies

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -- A Marshfield woman who created national headlines after she told would-be robbers they couldn't have any money, but could have all the Tootsie Rolls they wanted, has died according to an obituary.

97-year-old Marge Wolf owned Wolf's Grocery in Marshfield for almost 60 years. She retired in December of last year.

According to that obituary, she died on Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, with family by her side.

Marge's story traveled nationwide after it was aired on Newsline 9. It appeared on World News with Diane Sawyer, CNN and People Magazine online.

But after all the fame, Marge contested that she was no celebrity and was still, “just plain old Marge.”

Visitation and a service are scheduled for on Tuesday in Marshfield.
