Individual State Gymnastics Championship

Day two of the Gymnastics State Tournament took place in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday. After the team competition Friday, the individual round where girls had a chance to compete just for themselves.

After years of leotards, calloused hands and pointed toes today marks the day that SPASH and Antigo seniors say goodbye to competing gymnastics.  A strong performance from our area girls, including Antigo's Katelyn Kondzela whose 8.70 on balance beam won her 10th place.  Heidi Zorn from Stevens Point with 14th place from a 9.20 on floor, and freshman Kali Schierl wasn't able to crack the top 10 with her 35.100 all around score. The freshman still has plenty of time ahead of her.

While the girls say they're happy with their performance today, they also tell me today was special for them knowing this would be their last ever performance on gymnastics apparatus.
The girls may not be able to do a giant, back flip or leap years down the road, but the memories they've gained in a gym will stick for a lifetime.
