Time to check smoke detectors

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Saturday is the night to turn clocks an hour ahead for Daylight Saving Time.

The Wausau Fire Department says this is a great time to remind people to check on their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Officials say even without any signs that batteries are running low, it's simply safer to switch them out, especially if it's been a while.

"Whether you're getting that chirp or not, we still recommend you do it because the time that you actually need it is not the time to find out your battery went bad," said Lt. Keith Cortright.

Officials also recommend checking to see if it's time to get a new smoke detector. They stay good for about ten years.
