Milwaukee Burger Company coming to Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) - A Wisconsin burger chain is expanding to Wausau.

Milwaukee Burger Company is opening a new restaurant, where Hudson's Grill used to be. The owner says opening day is scheduled for April 7th.

"We really like the building," said Kent Letnes, the restaurant owner. "It's bright in here. Lots of open windows. We love the tall ceilings."

The Wisconsin chain has two other locations in Appleton and Eau Claire.

"We're very Wisconsin driven and we like that Wausau is smack dab in the middle of Wisconsin," said Letnes.

Over the next two weeks, workers will be moving in kitchen equipment, painting and drilling.

The owner says he wants the restaurant to have a fun sports bar atmosphere.

"We strive to be the place to watch the game," he said.

The owner says the menu will feature tap beers, appetizers and, of course, burgers.

"We're not a dinner entree place, but we're going to be more of a place to grab a burger and a beer and watch the game," said Letnes.

Some people in Wausau say they're curious to see how the new restaurant will do.

"A lot of big chain restaurants that move into small towns like this are not so successful," said Kevin Paul of Wausau.

The restaurant will face some competition nearby in Applebee's and Buffalo Wild Wings. The owner says he's not too worried.

"Sometimes we feel if we're isolated, we don't get as noticed as much, so we like being close to them, but we hope we can get our share as well," said Letenes.

Some people are already excited to check it out.

"I'll probably give it a try," said Kirk Lengoodwin of Wausau.

The owner says next week workers will start bringing in furniture.
