WAUSAU (WAOW) - A 30-year-old Wausau man was charged Tuesday with fatally shooting another man outside a Wausau bar two months ago.

John Lewis, 30, was charged with 25 felonies, including first-degree intentional homicide, a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute heroin and 14 counts of bail jumping. A judge ordered him jailed on a $1 million bond, online Marathon County court records said.

Lewis, 30, was arrested several hours after the Jan. 3 shooting at Sidetracked Bar.

KC Christopher Elliot, 27, was shot in the stomach and died several hours later after emergency surgery at Aspirus Hospital, authorities said.

According to the criminal complaint, Elliott, Lewis and others who knew them were all “drinking, shooting pool and talking” at the Sidetracked Bar but eventually Elliott and Lewis went outside and were “face to face arguin'” and physically fighting.

Lewis, nicknamed Little G, threatened to shoot Elliott and went to his car and retrieved a gun, the complaint said.

Elliott went toward Lewis and some friends shouted “KC get back over here” a couple of times, but Elliott kept walking toward Lewis, a witness told police.

The witness said he saw Lewis shoot Elliott in the stomach from about 3 feet away, the complaint said.

After Lewis shot Elliot, he (Elliott) dropped to his knees, got back up and swung at Lewis,” the complaint said.

One witness said the dispute between the men was about money. “He said he understood it to be one of them owing the other money and it might have been for drugs. He doesn't remember which one owed who,” the complaint said.

Another witness told police the shooting occurred because Lewis was getting beat in a fight and “he got his pride hurt,” the complaint said.

Lewis was charged as a repeat offender, meaning punishments would be more severe if he was convicted, the complaint said.

There was no attorney for Lewis listed in online court records Tuesday.
