The city of Wausau is one step closer in tackling its stray cat problem. On Tuesday, the Board of Public Works opened the bids from groups willing to take the cats.
Wausau police officers say there was only one bid. It came from the Marathon County Humane Society.
Back in May, the Marathon County board decided tostop paying to shelter stray cats. Each municipality then had to work out individual contracts with the humane society.
"We'll read it, it's a lengthy offer, proposal so we'll go through it, we'll examine the contents and contact the humane society and negotiate from there," said Captain Ben Bliven of the Wausau Police Department.
Officers say they hope to have a contract worked out by the end of the month.
