American outdoors writer dies in Ugandan jungle

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - The magazine Men's Journal says an American outdoors writer has died of an apparent heatstroke while on an assignment in a Ugandan jungle.

The magazine reported on its website that Matthew Power, 39, had accompanied a British explorer, Levison Wood, who was walking the length of the Nile River.

Men's Journal said the writer died a few hours after collapsing and losing consciousness on Monday and that his travel companions believe the cause of death was heatstroke.

Asan Kasingye, the head of Interpol in Uganda, said his staff in northern Uganda reported that Power "just dropped dead."

Men's Journal said of Power that he was "a true adventurer and a principled, ethical journalist" who valued accuracy in storytelling.
