Some 40 mailboxes vandalized in Clark County

NEILLSVILLE (WAOW) – The Clark County Sheriff's Department says two suspects from Neillsville have admitted vandalizing about 40 rural mailboxes during a nighttime spree across four townships.

Capt. James Hirsch said the suspects were found by matching evidence at the scene. The vandals either smashed the mailboxes with a tire iron or hit them with a vehicle, he said Tuesday.

The vandalism occurred late the night of March 4 and early March 5 in the townships of Weston, Pine Valley, Levis and Hewett, Hirsch said.

The vandalism was random and the boxes destroyed just happened to be along the miles of roads the pair drove, Hirsch said.

The motive for the vandalism was unclear, he said.

Hirsch asked victims of the vandalism to contact the Clark County Sheriff's Department at 715-743-3157 if they haven't done so already.
