Tibetan Monks finish work on sand art at NTC

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The public was able to get a look at the finished product of an art project involving sand meant to bring harmony Wednesday.

Tibetan monks have spent the past three days handcrafting the Mandala piece at Northcentral Technical College. To create the piece, the monks have to lay down millions of colorful grains of sand. This is the first time in three years the art has been crafted on campus.

"We are always looking for a diverse array of activities to bring in for our students," said director of student development Shawn Sullivan. "We always want to make sure we are offering events that show our students the value of diversity whether it be different cultures, different religions, different ideas."

Thursday morning, the sculpture will be dismantled. That symbolizes how nothing in life is permanent. People in the audience can have a piece of the art for good luck.
