Finalists for Wausau fire chief revealed

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Newsline 9 has learned the names of the three finalists for the next Wausau Fire Chief. Tracey Kujawa, the Stevens Point Fire Chief, Joseph Krueger, a battalion chief for the McHenry Township in Illinois, and Gary Trulson, who works at Western Technical College in Wisconsin, make up the final three, according to Wausau Human Resources Director Michael Loy.

"They're looking for feedback from the management staff, they're looking for feedback from the city leadership team, community leaders and ultimately they'll do a final interview with all our candidates," said Loy. "We're very, very excited about all the skills they could bring. They're all different in their own way, but we think that all three could do the job well here and we're very excited about where we're at."

City leaders say 50 people from across the country applied for the position. They have to conduct final interviews with the top three, but they hope to have a new chief picked out next month.

Wausau Police Chief Jeff Hardel has been the interim fire chief since Gary Buchberger retired earlier this year.
