Northern Wis. woman's death leads to drug arrests

LAC DU FLAMBEAU (WAOW) – The Lac du Flambeau Police Department says a 54-year-old woman's death from an apparent drug overdose triggered an investigation that led to arrests of six people suspected of distributing heroin on the reservation.

The woman, whose name was not released, was found unresponsive on March 3, Police Chief Robert Brandenburg said in a statement Friday.

The next day, police requested help from the state Division of Criminal Investigation, leading to several search warrants being issued, Brandenburg said.

That led to the arrests of six people, he said.

The official cause of the woman's death awaits toxicology test results but it is “believed to be a drug-related overdose,” Brandenburg said.
