Packers sign eight-time Pro Bowl DE Julius Peppers

GREEN BAY (WAOW) - The Green Bay Packers have announced they signed former Bears defensive end Julius Peppers to a three-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth up to $30 million.

The eight-time Pro Bowler was released by the Bears on Tuesday but was able to land a job in Green Bay, where the defense was in need of a pass-rusher. Throughout his 12 seasons in the NFL, Peppers has 118.5 career sacks, which is second in the league since 2002. Peppers led the Bears with 7.5 sacks last season. In four seasons with Chicago, the 34-year-old started every game and recorded 37.5 sacks.

The signing of Peppers marks just the third time since 2009 that Packers general manager Ted Thompson has inked an unrestricted free agent. Peppers' agent says the deal includes $7.5 million in guaranteed money, with a salary of $8.5 million for the contract's first year.
