Mayor: Clark County sawmill building total loss after fire

CLARK COUNTY (WAOW) - City of Greenwood Mayor Jim Schecklman tells Newsline 9 a building at Wolf's Sawmill in Clark County is a total loss after a Friday night fire.

The mayor said the fire started around 7:30 p.m. Friday. He said one person was inside at the time, but was able to escape with no injuries.

Schecklman said fire departments from the City of Greenwood, Thorp, Neillsville, Loyal, Spencer, and Granton responded to the scene.

At one point, crews had to cut off the water supply, according to the mayor. He said the water tower level was depleted because there were at least four water main breaks earlier in the week.

The mayor said Neillsville fire crews brought in two tanker trucks of water to fight the fire.

Mayor Schecklman said this was the “perfect example of communities working together” and he commended neighboring fire departments for their assistance.

He says the fire was under control by 11 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
