Marshfield Lions Club hands out 3,000 pairs of glass in Central America

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -  For Steve McCabe, president of the Marshfield Lions Club, there's nothing better than the feeling of helping others.

"It is really inspiring and invigorating to have these missions," said McCabe.

Thirty-two Lions Club members from central Wisconsin returned from Nicaragua last month, a week-long trip they take once a year. Their goal is to give sight to those who can't afford glasses.

"Most of these people live on less than five to six dollars a day. These people cannot afford glasses because they have a choice either they save their money for glasses or they save their money for food. So naturally they are going to want food for their family," said McCabe.

McCabe says the lions handed out about 3,000 pairs of glasses to people of all ages. All of the glasses were donated and free for the people. He says women have cried and even blessed members of the Lions Club when they receive their glasses.

"I just have a simple saying. When you're young, you learn. When you're middle age, you earn. When you're a senior citizen, you want to return, return back to society. Give something back. Makes you feel that being here on earth has made a difference,” says McCabe.
