Wausau Tile recognized for recycling

Wausau Tile in Rothschild has been recognized for reducing the waste it sends to landfills and for recycling materials.

"They diverted 14,000 tons of material from going into landfills. Not only are they keeping waste out of our landfills they are also recycling materials and making new products," said Marathon County Solid Waste Manager, Meleesa Johnson.

Wausau Tile leaders say they started the recycling efforts about a decade ago.

"We began very small. We are very proud of this effort. It includes every part of this company, and the business is expanding," said Tom Hale, vice president of sales.

Manager John Ivaska says that looking at new ways to use materials is key.

"The whole idea is to keep re-using it," he said.
