Fans catching March Madness fever

WAUSAU (WAOW) - For sports fans, March Madness means college basketball takes center stage. Many fans flocked to sports bars Thursday to catch all the games.

The unpredictability is what sports fans love about March Madness.

"One game it's all on the line, you're out or you're in for another round," said Paul David of Wausau. "That's what makes it fun."

Hundreds came to watch the start of the NCAA tournament at Buffalo Wild Wings in Wausau. Some people adjusted work to permit them to watch the games.

"We didn't have a meeting until later, so we figured we'd grab some food and watch some of the games," said Eric Pierce of Milwaukee.

He says he tries to stay connected on his laptop.

"Just going through emails, responding to emails, just trying to make it seem like I'm working at least to my coworkers," said Pierce.

Restaurant workers say March Madness is one of the busiest times of the year for them.

"A lot of time we'll be on a wait because people want to get in and watch the game," said Lyndsey Dassow, a manager at Buffalo Wild Wings.

She says March Madness often draws passionate fans.

"Some people will sit here from when we open at to midnight or at least until the tournament is done for the day," said Dassow.

Buffalo Wild Wings is also opening a half hour earlier on Friday, so fans can watch the early games.

With the Wisconsin Badgers winning Thursday, fans say their excitement will grow.

"I think the Badgers have a chance to go deep in the tournament," said David.
