By Brandon Kinnard, Sports Multimedia Journalist - email
The WIAA girls basketball state championship games are now set. All games will be played Saturday, and all can be seen on Newsline 9.
Three teams will have a chance to win back-to-back state championships.
One of those teams is Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, which will take on top-ranked Barneveld in the Division 5 championship game. That game is scheduled to begin at 11:05 a.m.
In Division 4, defending champion Algoma will take on Cuba City at 12:45 p.m. Both teams are in familiar territory; the programs have combined for 12 state championships. Cuba City has won nine, with the most recent one coming in 2010. Algoma has won three.
Another local team in Neillsville will compete in the Division 3 state championship game. The 27-0 Warriors are looking to complete a perfect season, and are also looking for their second title in three seasons. They will take on Kettle Moraine Lutheran at 2:30 p.m.
Green Bay Notre Dame, the defending champion, will play DeForest in the Division 2 championship game. Both teams have only one loss on the season. That game will begin at 6:35 p.m.
And in the night cap, which is scheduled to begin at 8:15, Oak Creek will go up against Superior in the Division 1 championship game.
