Texas dogs find home in Wisconsin

WAUSAU (WAOW) - On Sunday, two families adopted two dogs that were in danger of being euthanized at a shelter in Arlington, Texas.

People from central Wisconsin arranged for the dogs to be flown to Wausau and adopted. Keith Tryba of Merrill and Tammy Behnke of Weston work to find dogs forever homes in Wisconsin and other neighboring states. Tryba and Behnke help relocate dogs from Texas-based groups, Bullluvable Paws and Chi Wawas Rescue and Partners of Arlington Animal Services.

"It's just great to see how happy they are," said Tryba. "That they know, you can see the dog knows that there's good people out there not just abusive people."

A group called Pilots and Paws helps transport the dogs for free.

On Sunday, Tracey Tesch brought home a dog named Texas.

"Got a little bit of training to do, he likes to pull," said Tesch. "Shivering because of the cold, but we're excited to train him to teach him and have him be part of our family. "

Tryba and Behnke began matching dogs with new owners in November. Since then they say they have saved about 15 dogs. They say their dog placement program is funded mainly through donations.
