Granite Peak activity winding down

RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) - As spring weather approaches, the Granite Peak ski season is starting to wrap up.

On Sunday, the mountain was crowded with skiers and snowboarders looking to get a few more runs in before they have to call it quits for the season.

Monday is the first day of Avalanche Days, when people can hit the slopes at a discounted rate.

"We're going to run the end of the season here, hopefully with a little bit warmer weather, and then next year also," said John Rudeen of Rothschild. "We're planning ahead."

Dan Schultz of Janesville says he plans on spending one or two more weekends at Granite Peak.

"I'm a summer child, but I love all the seasons in Wisconsin," Schultz said. "I love skiing so I'm just glad we get to extend it as late as we can into the year."

April 6 will be the last day of the regular season. Then, depending on the weather, Granite Peak officials are prepared to open April 11-13 for one final weekend.
