MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -- Two men police say supplied a Marshfield woman with a deadly dose of heroin have pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide charges.
Justin Drinka, 23, and Trenton Blume, 24, reached a plea deal with prosecutors Monday, avoiding a lengthy trial that was scheduled for April. Sentencing has been scheduled for May 16.
Prosecutors say they will ask the judge to sentence Drinka to four years in prison and six years on extended supervision. They say they will also ask the judge to sentence Blume to five years in prison and 15 years on extended supervision.
Marshfield police say the two men supplied the heroin that killed 20-year-old Kayla Vanderwyst. She was found dead inside a Marshfield home in August 2012. Vanderwyst's mother was in court, but didn't want to comment on the case.
Drinka and Vanderwyst did heroin together the night before her death and Blume drove them to pick it up, according to prosecutors.
Attorneys for both Blume and Drinka declined to comment after court on Monday.
