Wausau East football coach resigns

WAUSAU (WAOW) – Wausau East High School is looking for a new football coach.

Scott Mallien resigned after one season to move back to Green Bay, Athletic Director Greg Harvey said Wednesday. The resignation is effective at the end of the school year.

The Lumberjacks were 1-8 last season.

Mallien, who is a social studies teacher at the school, replaced Steven Jung after he was named head coach at Neenah High School.

Mallien was defensive coordinator at Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay before being named East's head coach, Harvey said.

Ultimately, the sacrifice that Scott made with regard to coaching football at Wausau East and being apart from his family in Green Bay was too much,” Harvey said in a statement. “He had to make a decision that was in the best interest of his family.”

Harvey called Mallien a “fantastic football coach.”

The search for Mallien's successor will begin immediately, Harvey said.
