Merrill police find meth - stashed in a cell phone

MERRILL (WAOW) – Merrill police say a 28-year-old man concealed some methamphetamine in a unique place – his cell phone.

Capt. Corey Bennett said Friday that 4 grams of the drug were found in the battery compartment of Timothy Lemke's cell phone following a traffic stop. The battery had been removed from the phone, raising suspicions, Bennett said.

It is probably not the first time it has happened, for sure,” Bennett said.

Lemke, 28, of Merrill was stopped about 1 a.m. last Saturday on suspicion of crossing the center line and driving a vehicle with a defective brake light, Bennett said.

He has been charged with one felony count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and was released on a $2,000 signature bond, according to online Lincoln County court records.
