Loans available for people needing propane

MERRILL (WAOW) - There's help in sight for people affected by this winter's propane shortage.

Governor Walker has signed a bill creating an emergency loan program. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority guarantees up to a $2500 loan for families who qualify based on their income.

With the money, people can buy propane or other heating supplies.

State officials encourage those struggling to keep their homes warm to apply.

"Sometimes people really need to figure out a way to make ends meet," said Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch. "The governor wants to make sure those ends do meet and that people stay warm, even as we begin to warm up."

Kleefisch was in Merrill on Monday.

She referred questions about the program to the state's Department of Administration.
