Jamaica panel charges 3 more police with murders

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) - A commission that investigates abuses by Jamaica's security forces says three more police officers in a central parish have been charged with murder.

Some three weeks after Constable Collis Brown was accused of three counts of murder, the Independent Commission of Investigations announced Monday that three more officers in Clarendon parish have been arrested for alleged unlawful killings.

They include Detective Cpl. Kevin Adams, who has been charged with killing four men between 2011 and 2013.

All of the accused officers have been suspended.

Last year, 258 civilians were killed by security forces on the Caribbean island of 2.7 million people. That was 39 more than the previous year.

Human rights activists have repeatedly criticized the chronically high number of fatal shootings by Jamaica's nearly 10,000 police officers.
