Sentry giving $3M more to Stevens Point schools

The Sentry Insurance Foundation plans to pump another $3 million into Stevens Point schools to give students the latest high-tech learning equipment.

"We started this program back in 2009. Over the past five years, we have made $6 million in upgrades to the public and private schools in this community," said Jim Weishan, president of the Sentry Foundation.

Weishan says the program equipped the schools with laptop computers for students, funded technical training and support for teachers and provided classroom tools like smartboards, projectors and wireless networks.

The newest initiative unveiled Wednesday is expected to  provide $3 million in  technology for younger students over the next three years.

Organizers say they decided to shorten the length of the initiative to three years instead of five because of the rapid advances in technology.

They say that will allow them to better respond to school needs in the future.
