New Wausau restaurant set to open on day of national championship

WAUSAU ( WAOW) - Milwaukee Burger Company in Wausau is almost ready for business.

"We've had a ton of people come and say we can't wait to try your burgers, your beers and your bloody mary’s," said Kent Letnes, the restaurant's owner.

The restaurant has been in the works for six months.

"We're about all set,” said Letnes. “We passed all our inspections and we're ready to open."

Turns out, they open on Monday. That's the NCAA national championship game.

"It was based on construction schedule on when the construction crew thought they would be done,” said Letnes. “It just turns out that it's the national championship game and now there's a good chance the Badgers will be in it. So that's great, we're excited."

Owners say they're hoping the game will bring a boost to business.

"We think a lot of people would come out to watch the game,” said Letnes. “We'd be excited to have Wausau come out and watch the game."

Other restaurants in the area like Buffalo Wild Wings are also preparing for the big game and Milwaukee Burger Company's grand opening.

"It happens every time a new restaurant opens,” said Lyndsey Dassow, a manager at Buffalo Wild Wings. “People say oh we have to go and check that out, but you know it could be they're just a full house."

Managers say they're not too worried about the competition.

"Regardless of restaurants opening, we're still expecting a full crowd and full house," said Dassow.

Milwaukee Burger Company is located on Stewart Avenue. Owners say they plan to have a number of specials for the grand opening.
