Marathon Co. Library changing summer hours

WAUSAU (WAOW) – Responding to patron demands, the Marathon County Public Library announced Friday that it will have extended weekend hours during the summer, meaning winter hours are now in effect year-round.

The changes affect the Wausau headquarters library and branches in Hatley, Marathon and Rothschild.

At the headquarters library, new summer hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Previously, the library was closed on Sunday during the summer.

New hours at the three branches are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Those branches previously were closed on summer weekends.

Library Director Ralph Illick said the board of trustees approved the changes last month, in part because of findings of a survey and the board's desire for a consistent, convenient schedule, rather than separate winter and summer hours.

The changes will slightly increase operational costs but schedule adjustments will allow for no increase in staff costs, Illick said in a statement.
