WAUSAU (WAOW) - Student archers from around Wisconsin are in Wausau for a two-day state tournament run by the National Archery in the Schools Program.

"We have 1,250  students who are signed up for the competition. We did have two schools (Superior and West DePere) that couldn't make it Friday due to the heavy snow. But we hope to get them in tomorrow," tournament director Don Schroeder said Friday.

Students are competing for individual and team honors.

"I hope we place in the top 10 teams and qualify for nationals, " said Joseph Huebsch, a Wausau West student.

Winners advance to national competition in Kentucky.

Madison hosts the world competition in July.
