Athletic Park renovations almost complete

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The home of the Wisconsin Woodchucks is almost ready for opening day. Now, final improvements are being made to the newly renovated Athletic Park.

Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple and other community leaders were there Monday to get a closer look at the renovations. Mayor Tipple even helped install the first new seat at the stadium.

The $3 million facelift began last Summer. Team leaders expect all of the work to be done before opening day.

Community leaders say they're excited to watch the old ball park be transformed into a modern stadium.

"It's really kind of neat when your community grows and this is just one example of another piece of our economy that's going to bring people in and enjoy our quality of life," said Mayor Tipple.

The renovations will also revamp the ballpark's exterior, making it more inviting to fans.

Opening day is May 30th.
