Recount gives Nekoosa mayor four-vote win

NEKOOSA (WAOW) – For the second election in a row, Nekoosa Mayor Alan Marcoux has survived a recount, winning a second two-year term by four votes.

Marcoux defeated challenger Daniel Carlson 202 to 198 in the April 1 election, according to results of Tuesday's recount. The unofficial results on Election Night had Marcoux winning by five votes.

City Clerk Joe Rusch said a ballot that was scanned into a machine April 1 wasn't counted because it had a light “X” over Carlson's slot on the ballot. Both sides agreed Tuesday to count the vote.

We are certifying Marcoux as the winner,” Rusch said. “I believe we are finished with the issue.”

In 2012, Marcoux defeated Carlson 298 to 291, which was also decided following a recount.
