More than two tons of animal food donated

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - The South Wood County Humane Society got a heavy donation Tuesday.

Students from Auburndale High School brought in more than 4,000 pounds of dog, cat and rabbit food.

Senior Vanessa Kieffer is the student leading the charge.

She says her agriculture class collected about $800 and worked with the Central Wisconsin Co-op to buy the food at a discounted price.

Kieffer hopes to have a future in veterinary science.

She says Tuesday's donation was rewarding.

"Oh my gosh, I can't even put words into it," Kieffer said. "It's extreme happiness. I'm so happy to help out these animals to bring in food that they need, and I'm hoping that each and every one of them gets adopted one day."

After the food was unloaded, the students toured the Humane Society and visited with the animals.
