Wausau West's head hockey coach Pete Susens has announced his retirement after 36 years at West.

Susens the state's all time win leader with a record just shy of 600 wins. That has helped lead the Warriors in 3 straight state title games and a State Championship in 2011.

"The coaching part of it is going to be the toughest part to walk away from, and the interaction with the high school players. It's been a great run and it's been a privilege to have good hockey players come through the program and good people. I've had good support from the administration at West, good assistant coaches and from my family. It's been really good."

Susens tells me he doesn't think it'll really sink in till the fall when next  years season starts, and he won't be on the ice with the team.
