Contestants dance-off for humane society fundraiser

ROTHSCHILD (WAOW) - Contestants dueled on the dance floor at the second annual Dancing for the Paws in Rothschild.

Newsline 9's own Nate Barrett and Alyssa Meyer competed in the event.

Bruce Lamont, a Pastor at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, took home the Mirror Ball trophy.

Barrett tied for second place with Steve Ruppel in the competition.

The fundraiser raised money for the Humane Society of Marathon County.

Audience members could vote for their favorite dancers by donating money.

Organizers say they hoped to raise $30,000.

"We're really grateful that those contestants are so supportive of the Humane Society and given this time of themselves you know to help us with this fundraising event," Linda Berna-Karger, Marathon County Humane Society board president and event coordinator.

The six contestants started practicing their routines for the competition in November.

Professional dancers from Get Out and Dance coached the competitors.
