QB McEvoy highlights Badgers spring game

MADISON - Last year's Badgers starting quarterback Joel Stave sat out Wisconsin's annual spring game due to an injury on Saturday, giving Tanner McEvoy and other Badgers quarterbacks an opportunity to showcase themselves.

Overall, McEvoy and Badgers Head Coach Gary Andersen were pleased with how the day went.

"I thought I had a pretty well-rounded day,” McEvoy said after the practice. “It's been a long spring. We've had a tough time on offense. But I think today we showed that we had a pretty good day.

I played alright,” McEvoy continued. “I wish I had a couple things go differently but I think every position would say that."

Andersen echoed his quarterback's thoughts, and also confirmed that the Badgers quarterback competition will be a two person race between Stave and McEvoy, who played safety for Wisconsin last season.

"He's proven through spring that he's gotten better every day,” Andersen said of McEvoy. “He threw the ball well. He showed you what he can do with his feet."

No matter who is at quarterback, the position may be in short supply of receiving targets. The Badgers lost wide receiver Jared Abbrederis to graduation. Abrederris led Wisconsin with 78 receptions and 1081 yards in 2013, and is expected to be a third to fifth round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
