Water main break in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau Public Works crews and officers from Wausau Police Department responded to a water main break at Prospect Avenue and Sumner Street Sunday morning.

"The water has pushed through the soil and has pushed up the sidewalk on the other end of the bridge that we're at here and it was flowing into the basement of a house," said Lt. Michael Juedes of the Wausau Police Department.

Wausau Water Works officials say water is no longer running from the leak.

Dick Boers, the Drinking Water Superintendent, says all homes on the block should have running water.

Boers says earlier in the day about 10 homes were without water.

He says, on Monday, crews will fix the pipe under the bridge, where workers found the leak. He says the spring thaw caused the water main break.

Juedes says Public Works crews put down sandbags to protect a home.

A person living in the home says there was two inches of water in the basement.
