National Library Week begins in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The power of reading was the message behind a musical performance at the Marathon County Library Sunday.

To kick off National Library Week, children's musician Randy Peterson played his show called "Big Dreams Begin With Books."

Children enjoyed hearing Peterson sing and play guitar and banjo.

He says with things in the world moving so fast, books can still hold value for children.

"There's so much imagination that goes into reading, whether it's a story where you're imagining what's happening or if it's a topic," Peterson said. "It's a book about dinosaurs or outer space. For me, those were big ones and they got me dreaming."

Peterson says he has been playing at schools and libraries for 25 years to inspire children to read.
