Trivia tournament wraps up

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - The clock is winding down on the annual trivia contest in Stevens Point.

The 54-hour marathon trivia competition ends at midnight, Monday morning.

Some of the volunteers at WWSP radio station say they have only slept for a handful of hours this weekend.

Organizers say this year there are more than 350 teams registered with about 9,000 people playing.

Some teams have as many as 30 players on one team.

On the team Beerpigs, players all work in tune with each other to answer the questions by looking up answers online, in books and any resource they can find.

Competitors say it's the adrenaline rush of finding the correct answer as a team that keeps them coming year after year.

"Every question you know it's coming, but you don't know what it is and you're just hoping that it's something you know and if not can I find it?" said Marv Hafenbreadle, co-captain of the Beerpigs. "It's the one goal to be able to find that question."

Hafenbreadle's team rents out a space in Stevens Point every year for the tournament.

He says they get the hockey team to help them move all their books and computers in for the competition.
