Stevens Point man sentenced to federal prison

MADISON (WAOW) – A 35-year-old Stevens Point man was sentenced Tuesday to 6 ½ years in federal prison for receiving child pornography, a federal prosecutor said.

Denis Gack was also placed on 10 years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said.

Gack threatened a minor and coerced her to send him pornographic images of herself, the prosecutor said in a statement.

The investigation began in August 2012 when Gack's cell phone was searched as a condition of probation on a 2009 state conviction in Portage County for causing mental harm to a child and causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity, Vaudreuil said.

That search determined Gack was communicating with a minor, Vaudreuil said. Gack plead guilty to the federal charge last October.

Gack was also convicted in Wood County in 2004 for having sex with a child age 16 or older, the prosecutor said.
