UPDATE: Power restored to most WPS customers

Posted:
Heavy, wet snow that accumulated to 13 inches in places knocked out power to nearly 4,600 customers in northern Wisconsin early Thursday, Wisconsin Public Service Corp. said.

By 5:30 p.m., the utility reported power had been restored to all but about 50 customers. At one time, more than 2,000 customers in Eagle River had lost electricity.

WPS spokeswoman Kelly Zagrzebski said 20 crews from Green Bay, Wausau, Marinette and Antigo were sent to the region to help restore the power.

If weather cooperates, we hope to have everyone's power restored later today,” she said in a statement.

WPS has about 450,000 electric customers in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Several power outages have been reported Thursday morning across northern Wisconsin.

According to Wisconsin Public Service, 441 customers are reported to be without power in Hazelhurst and just under 75% of all customers in Presque Isle find themselves without power early this morning.

WPS has not reported what is causing the outages, but there is a storm system moving across northern Wisconsin.
