Storm drops more than a foot of snow on northern Wisconsin

Observations from the National Weather Service indicate Wednesday and Thursday's mid-April snowstorm dropped more than a foot of snow across areas of northern Wisconsin.

According to measurements taken Thursday morning in Vilas County, 16" of new accumulation was reported in Conover, 15" in Boulder Junction and 14.3" in Lac du Flambeau.

In Price County, 12.5" was observed in both Park Falls and Phillips. Woodruff in Oneida County also picked up 12.5" of snow within the past 48 hours.

Other communities in the Northwoods picking up significant snowfall included Alvin in Forest County with 12.5", Drummond in Bayfield County getting 11.5", Rhinelander in Oneida County getting 11", and WInchester in Vilas County picking up a fresh coating of 14" of snow.

Additional snow totals included reports of 16" at Lac Vieux Desert in Vilas County, 12" near Tomahawk and 14.4" at St. Germain.

The winter storm that sparked the significant snowfall has now exited Wisconsin, and additional accumulation is not anticipated through Thursday night.

As of mid-day Thursday, all winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories in Wisconsin have been permitted to expire by the National Weather Service.
