Salt supply OK in Wausau and Marathon County

Road crews in Wausau once again had to put down salt because of the snow.

"Normally, when it's warm we don't have to use the salt. But my drivers told me there were some treacherous spots on the hills in Wausau. We put it down to be safe," said Wausau Superintendent of Public Works Ric Mohelnitzky.

There is a large pile of salt in the public works barn.

"Right now we have about 1,000 tons of salt. That should last about four or five storms. We are doing good for this year and ready for next," said Mohelnitzky.

Dan Raczkowski of the Marathon County Highway Department says his drivers face no problems when it comes to salt supply.

"We have used about 21,000 tons of salt. We still have 4,000 on hand. We are doing fine," said Raczkowski.

The state wrote letters to road departments across Wisconsin asking that they conserve salt supplies due to shortages in some areas.
